Module 12 Video Responses 4/28/19-

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
Abstract Expressionalism and Pop: I chose this video because this era interests me and I wanted to learn more about Pop art and the culture sourrounding this time in art history. 
The Art of Henry Moore: I chose this video because I really hadn't heard of Henry Moore before and I wanted to gain a little exposure to him. 
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Abstract Expressionalism and Pop: I learned about artists such as Franz Kline, Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol. I learned about abstract expressionalism and its relationship to surrealism. A common theme throughout this was how abstract things such as a basic shape can draw out so much emotion. 
The Art of Henry Moore: I learned about how abstract and human elements are brought together to create a deep meaning to artwork that has psychological value to it. I learned about how for abstract art, or even art as a whole, it takes effort on the part of the observer to understand what the art really means. Art should be thought-provoking. 
3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
Abstract Expressionalism and Pop: This video relates to the text and gives good examples to complement the textbook section on artists and movements thoughout the 20th century, particularly the 60s-80s. 
The Art of Henry Moore: The video relates to what we learned about in the text in regards to 20th century modernist artists. Having been so recent in history, this video was detailed and informative for learning about how art was shaped by WW2 and post war culture. 
4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
Abstract Expressionalism and Pop: I enjoyed this film a lot. I liked learning about Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollock. I enjoy viewing and learning about abstract art. 
The Art of Henry Moore: I enjoyed this film and learning about Henry Moore. I liked the figures that he made. I liked learning about the psychological aspect to abstract art and sculptures.

1. How was the process of creating the  GMail  account and setting up the  Blog ? It was a fairly easy and straightforward process to create the blog. I used a GMail account that I already had set up and check frequently.  2. What do you expect to learn in this course? I expect to have a better understanding of the basics of contemporary art after completing this course. I do not currently have much experience in understanding the principles of visual art, and do not have a solid framework to be able to look at a piece of art and critique it in any nuanced way. I hope this course will allow me to do so.  3. How do you feel about taking an  online  course? I feel good about taking an online course such as this. I feel as if this is a course where it will be easier to complete online rather than meeting in a physical classroom. Mod 11 Art Gallery Visit #2 - 4/21/19-

Step 1: The Exhibition For my Art Gallery Visit #2, I visited the Museo de Arte in San Juan, Puerto Rico while I was down there on spring break in March. The museum featured a large collection of some of the most treasured art pieces created from local artists in Puerto Rico.  Questions about the exhibit:  1. What is the title of the exhibit? Mundillo nuestro: Antonio Martorell y sus amigos 2. What is the theme of the exhibition? The theme was a spotlight on native Puerto Rican artist, Antonio Martorell along with other local PR artists on display.  Step 2: The Gallery Questions about the physical space: 1. What type of lighting is used? The is a lot of natural lighting due to the giant windows in the central section of the museum, and each side room was painted a bold color and had dimmed recessed lighting in the room. 2. What colors are used on the walls? Red, Orange, Blue, Green, Yellow 3. What materials are used in the interior artchitecture of the space? Marble, concrete

Module 5: Art Gallery Visit #1

A.) Which artworks make an impact or impression on me? Why? Pablo Picasso's Nude Figure, late spring 1910, made an impression on me. I have not seen too many Picasso paintings in real life, so this was a treat. I love the black, white, and beige color palate, and the shapes used to create the person's body is very unique. The other painting that I feel made an impression on me was Jean Metzinger's Danseuse au cafe , 1912. This painting has a lot going on in it. There is a lot of contrasting colors and shapes that give it a very unique look and feel. Your eyes are directed towards the black and white diamond pattern as well as the blue color that pops out at you. I really enjoyed staring at this painting for a good while.  B.)
