2/24/19 Color Wheel, Value Scale, and Discussion Questions

Image
Discussion Questions: 1. Discuss what you thought about creating the Value Scale and Color Wheel. I enjoyed the mental space that drawing and painting put me into when I get going. At first, it seemed trivial but it turned out to be really fun. 2. Which media did you enjoy working with the best and why? I enjoyed working with the acrylic paint, even though the colors that I have weren't the exact same as the ones we needed. I enjoy colors a lot.  3. What was the most important discovery in the creation of these studies? It was important to discover how long it can take to create a simple art piece like this. The project forced me to really concentrate on the little steps in the process.  4. What is the most important information you learned from watching the videos for this project? What is your opinion of the videos? I enjoyed the videos. I learned that  cyan, magenta, yellow are the real primary colors.

Questions and Topics for Your Blog Posting: 1. Describe Color and it's effects on emotions. Use the appropriate vocabulary of color in your posting. Emotional responses to color are both culturally conditioned and intensely personal. (i.e.- Red and Green being culturally tied to Christianity in America). Certain colors evoke particular emotions. Blue is often associated with sadness (see Nocturne in Blue and Cold - James Abbott McNeill Whistler). Red can indicate horror or anxiety, perhaps due to the fact that our eyes detect red, yellow, and orange faster than other colors. An example of this is Edvard Munch's work, The Scream . Color Harmonies are used when decorating rooms to evoke certain feels or emotions. Monochromatic harmonies are composed of variations on the same hue with differences in value and intensity. Complementary harmonies involve colors directly opposite each other on the color wheel, such as red and green. This makes both hues appear more intense when

1. The first video talked about the differences that the ancient philosophers, such as Plato and Aristotle, had when it came to discussing beauty, art, and aesthetics. While mostly concerned with logic and reasoning, philosophers have always had great respect for the role that art and aestheticism have in the human experience. Something that I took away from this video was how Aristotle felt as if stong "negative emotions", such as pity and fear, were good for the citizenry of Athens and for people in general, which was different from Plato's view and most others during that time. The example of Picasso's painting correlated well with this point, showcasing that something can be both dark/tragic/sad as well as being beautiful in it's own right. Another segment of this video that I found particularly interesting was the part on Dianisis, who conjured the impulse to dissolve the ego, lose all limits and let go to pleasure and delirium. Overall, this video was int

1. How was the process of creating the  GMail  account and setting up the  Blog ? It was a fairly easy and straightforward process to create the blog. I used a GMail account that I already had set up and check frequently.  2. What do you expect to learn in this course? I expect to have a better understanding of the basics of contemporary art after completing this course. I do not currently have much experience in understanding the principles of visual art, and do not have a solid framework to be able to look at a piece of art and critique it in any nuanced way. I hope this course will allow me to do so.  3. How do you feel about taking an  online  course? I feel good about taking an online course such as this. I feel as if this is a course where it will be easier to complete online rather than meeting in a physical classroom. I like the ability to complete the assignments at my own pace throughout the week.  4. What three things in the Growth Mindset (from Step 3)  vid eos
